About Madison Square Garden
Finding best view seats / tickets
Seat numbers can make a big difference: it can be the difference of your team winning or losing; or your child smiling or crying. With our seating charts you'll know exactly where your seats are for any game, or concert at msg.
100s Sections: Seat #1 is always closer to the lower section number, for example, seat #1 in Section 107 is on the aisle next to section 106.
100s Seat numbers: Most rows have between 18 and 20 seats, however each row may be different.
200s Sections: Like the 100s, seat #1 is always closer to the lower section number, for example seat #1 in Section 224 is on the aisle next to section 223.
Note: The first row of every section in the 200s has a TV (which is an added benefit for people all the way into the 5th row).
200s Seat numbers: Most rows have between 18 and 22 seats, however each row is different and ranges from 10 to 24 seats.
400s Seat numbers: The seat numbers in the 400s are the opposite of the 100s & 200s, therefore the lower seat numbers are closer to the higher section numbers (seat #1 in section 415 is next to section 416).
Bar Stool Seats: B stands for Barstool seats and they are what you would expect (a bar stool), but they do have a small back to support you a little. Almost all bar stool seats are the last row of the section. The perks of these seats are the ability to stand (with plenty of room and no one behind you), as well as a permanent counter to eat food and keep your drinks on. There are also some standing room only (SRO) rows.
West Balcony Seats: This area offer great atmosphere. Even if you are not sitting there it's a great place to meet people. It has lots of space and the concessions are inside the main arena so you can grab a hot dog & beer and continue watching the game.
NY Rangers seating chart information
The Rangers shoot twice on the side with section numbers 109 to 115. The Rangers bench is in front of section 106 and 107, while the visitors bench is front of 107 and 108. If you are looking for tickets in the 100s it's often not worth paying the premium for rows 3 to 10, instead, save a couple extra bucks and avoid the annoyance of the glass blocking your sightlines.
MSG concert seating chart information
Thanks to the recent renovation at MSG the seat numbers for the floor sections (for a concert) follow the same logic as the 100s and 200s. Therefore, seat #1 in section A to section F and section 1 to section 3 will always be closer to the lower section number. For example seat #1 in section Floor B (which is typically dead center and the most desired seats) will be on the aisle closer to section A.
Seat #1 in Floor A (which is typically to the left of the stage when you are facing it) is the farthest from the center of the stage, thus the higher the seat number the better the seat. However, when looking at tickets in section Floor C, the lower the seat number the closer you are to the center of the stage.
Because most people don't know this, the best MSG concert seats (at the best prices) are the side floor sections that are closer to section B.
Floor sections D, E or F may not be the best choice. The floor has no elevation so the likelihood is that your view will be blocked. You would be much better off with seats in the 100s. The best seats / sections are 108 and 116.
Different rows if different sections offer may offer a comparable experience - the 20th row in section 108 is equivalent to the 15th row in section 107, which would be equivalent to the 10th row in section 106. So a simple rule of thumb is that the difference in view, from one section to the next, is the same difference one would encounter by moving up or down 5 rows.
Note: the further you get from the stage the less important this is. For example, in the 200s, I would say it's 3 rows per a section.
Suites and premium experiences
Entertain in style! The transformed Garden features three distinct, brand new suite levels – Event Level, Lexus Madison Level and the Signature Level. The Signature Suites are typically a destination for the corporate hospitality needs. Enjoy premium views for sports and center stage views for every concert. Impress clients and guests with state of the art amenities, premium menu options and the transformed Signature Lobby.
How many - seats / people does it hold / people can fit / people does it seat
The maximum capacity/ audience of MSG after renovation:
Basketball: 19,033
Ice hockey / Lacrosse: 17,200
Concerts: 20,000

Retired Knicks jersey numbers are: 10 (Walt Frazier), 12 (Dick Barnett), 15 (Earl Monroe and Dick McGuire), 19 (Willis Reed), 22 (Dave DeBusschere), 24 (Bill Bradley), 33 (Patrick Ewing), and 613 (Red Holtzman. The 613 signifies the number of wins attained as head coach of the Knicks).
Retired Rangers jersey numbers are: 1 (Eddie Giacomin), 2 (Brian Leetch), 3 (Harry Howell), 9 (Andy Bathgate and Adam Graves) 7 (Rod Gilbert), 11 (Mark Messier) and 35 (Mike Richter).

In addition, the number 12 hangs to celebrate Billy Joel's record breaking 12 sold out nights in the Arena (Feb-April, 2006) and the number 60 in honor of Elton John's 60th performance at The Garden on his 60th birthday (March 25, 2007).

Particularly famous ones include George Harrison's The Concert for Bangladesh, The Concert for New York City following the September 11 attacks, John Lennon's final concert appearance (during an Elton John concert on Thanksgiving Night, 1974) before his murder in 1980, and Elvis Presley who gave four sold out performances in 1972. Presley's first ever concerts in New York City. A 1971 rock-and-roll revival concert at the Garden, featuring Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Ricky Nelson, during which Nelson was reportedly booed when he played newer material, is thought to have been the inspiration for his 1972 hit single "Garden Party". The Garden usually hosts a concert each New Year's Eve, while the Knicks and Rangers play on the road. The Police played their final show of their reunion tour at the Garden in 2008. Elton John holds the all-time record for greatest number of appearances at the Garden with 62 shows (the 60th occurring on his 60th birthday, March 25, 2007), and Billy Joel set a record in 2006 during his 12 performance run, the longest run of a single artist at the venue. In a 2009 interview, the two piano men spoke about their affinity for playing concerts at the Garden. "Madison Square Garden is my favorite venue in the whole world," said Elton John. "I chose to have my 60th birthday concert there, because of all the incredible memories I've had playing the venue."[10] "Madison Square Garden is the center of the universe as far as I'm concerned. It has the best acoustics, the best audiences, the best reputation, and the best history of great artists who have played there", said Billy Joel. "It is the iconic, holy temple of Rock and Roll for most touring acts and, being a New Yorker, it holds a special significance to me. I'm honored to hold the record for Most Consecutive Nights Ever Sold at this world famous venue."[10]

He held his sold-out concert, Rainy Day New York from February 4-5. Rainy Day New York was marketed and promoted by the Asian concert production company Rainstone Live. Celebrities such as P-Diddy and JoJo also attend his concert.
The Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special was a 2001 New York City revue show by the American superstar. It took place on September 7 and 10, 2001. CBS television network later aired excerpts from the concerts as a two-hour special in honor of Michael Jackson's thirtieth year as a solo entertainer. The shows sold out in five hours. Ticket prices were pop's most expensive ever; the best seats cost $5,000 and included a dinner with Michael Jackson and a signed poster. Jackson reportedly earned $7.5 million for each of the two concerts, which is over $150,000 per minute.
Regular performances and concert records
Traditionally, Madison Square Garden hosts a concert on New Year's Eve. The Knicks and Rangers usually play on the road that evening. Recent NYE performances include multiple performances by the band Phish (1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2011, 2012), Billy Joel (1982, 1999), Blues Traveler (1996), Marc Anthony (2000), Wilco & The Flaming Lips (2004), The Black Crowes & Trey Anastasio (2005) and Chris Rock in 2007. A planned 2003 New Year's show by Jane's Addiction and Marilyn Manson was cancelled due to low ticket sales. No show was booked for December 31, 2006. Madison Square Garden hosted other various World Wrestling Entertainment events. It has already hosted Raw, SmackDown!, ECW and Saturday Night's Main Event and the other four big WWE pay-per-views (WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and SummerSlam) while it also hosted the first ever Elimination Chamber match at the 2002 Survivor Series. Madison Square Garden hosted the inaugural WrestleMania event in 1985 and since then, WrestleMania has become one of the major pay-per-view events on the market. The event returned to the venue for its 10th edition in 1994 and 20th in 2004. On March 14, 2004, WrestleMania XX generated more than $2.4 million USD in ticket sales.
The arena is also used for other special events, including tennis and circus events. The New York Police Academy, Baruch College/CUNY and Yeshiva University also hold their annual graduation ceremonies at Madison Square Garden. It hosted the Grammy Awards in 1972, 1997 and 2003 (which are normally held in Los Angeles) as well as the Latin Grammy Awards of 2006. The Garden also hosted the 2005 Country Music Association Awards (normally held in Nashville, Tennessee). The Big East Conference men's basketball tournament has been held at MSG every year since 1983, making it the longest period a conference tournament has been held at a single location. The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) has made annual stops since 2007 when its inaugural Built Ford Tough Series event was won by J. B. Mauney.
Since 1985, Irish band U2 has performed 17 shows at the Garden, more than at any other venue, including a combined 8 sold out shows on the 1st and 3rd legs of their Vertigo Tour. Many of boxing's biggest fights were held at Madison Square Garden, including the Roberto Durán-Ken Buchanan affair, and the first Joe Frazier – Muhammad Ali bout. Before promoters such as Don King and Bob Arum moved boxing to Las Vegas, Nevada Madison Square Garden was considered the mecca of boxing. The original ring, which was brought from the second and third generation of the Garden, was officially retired on September 19, 2007, and donated to the International Boxing Hall of Fame after 82 years of service. A new ring replaced it beginning on October 6 of that same year. Some of the historic fights held at MSG have been:
October 26, 1951 — Rocky Marciano vs. Joe Louis
The unbeaten Marciano, who would become heavyweight champion the following year, knocked out a clearly past-his-prime Louis in the 8th round. After the loss, Louis retired for the second time, this time for good.
Two of the three Ali–Frazier fights:
